Puppies and Kittens

Are you thinking of getting a new puppy or kitten? Or do you already have this new addition to the family? When you do make the decision to adopt a new pet it can be an exciting time. As a responsible owner you should also recognise that it can be quite a stressful time for your new pet. We are here to try and minimise that stress for you, as the owner and your new pet.

In order to make sure that your pet has the best possible start in life, we offer free of charge puppy and kitten consultations with the vet. This gives you the opportunity to get your pets health checked out and to ask any questions you may have.

It is more beneficial to you and your pet if they visit us for a health check at such a young age. There are a number of reasons for this. As you are probably aware, most animals hate to visit the vets. They associate this with something bad i.e. getting a needle or having to take tablets. So if your pet starts coming to see us from an early age for check ups, they should soon associate coming to see us with being lavished with attention and being made a fuss of! They should soon want to come to see us and enjoy the experience. This helps as your pet gets older in case they actually need to see us.

The free check up also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you have about your pets health – anything that may be concerning you or just enquiries on preventative healthcare.

In addition to the health check you will also receive a puppy/kitten pack. This contains essential information about fleas, worms, vaccinations, health checks, nutrition, neutering, dental care, socialisation, micro-chipping and taking you pet abroad.

You will also receive a leaflet explaining our VIP scheme and insurance. Both of which we recommend for consideration.

After the first visit we then suggest booking your pet in for their first vaccinations. This is to help protect them against a number of diseases. There is more information about our vaccine on our preventative healthcare page.

Whilst your pet is young they will be growing at a faster rate. To ensure they are growing at the correct rate for their age we suggest bringing them in for regular weight checks – about once a month. This also ensures you are feeding them the correct amount for their weight and reduces the possibility of them becoming overweight. Also we will need an accurate weight to enable us to prescribe any flea or worming treatments. We do not charge for weight checks and you do not need an appointment for this. We are open all day so just call down.
